Professional Halibut Fishing Charters in Homer Alaska since 1979

Present time in Homer, Alaska is:

Halibut

Halibut fishing out of Homer offers some of the finest, consistent fishing Alaska has to offer. Our vast fishing ground in Lower Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay produces halibut of all sizes and it is an extremely rare day that anyone fishing does not get their limit of 2 halibut. We are always on the lookout for exciting action whether it is hooking into a big monster fish to catch, photo and release, trying to fill the freezer with the delectable white fish or just enjoying the most action available, you will have the time of your life. Halibut run deep, shallow, they like the rocks and flat sandy bottom. They can be anywhere, giving us endless opportunities to seek them out depending on weather, tides and scenic destinations. Typical fish run in the 15-40 lb range but we all have the photo’s to prove what can really be ready to bite your hook at any given time…so be prepared! Check Booking Info page for rates

“Homer for the Halibut” as the old saying goes has been our mainstay since 1979, but let’s explore some of the other options that we offer out of Homer.

Half Day Halibut Charters on the M/V Irish

If all day fishing doesn’t fit into your schedule, or you just want to experience Alaska fishing without the “need to fill your freezer” the ½ day charter may be just the ticket.  This is can be a great opportunity to get your family out and enjoy a day of fun fishing on Kachemak Bay!

Our charters are professionally operated just like the full day charters we have been running for the past 30 years.  The limit of halibut is still 2 fish per person and we are here to help you catch them with our experienced friendly crew.  We will provide you with all the equipment, bait, fish filleting (which will be done onboard and ready for you when you leave the boat).  Fish processing is available back at the dock so you can send your fresh catch of halibut home.

You are going to need to bring food for your trip, warm clothing and raingear.  Don’t forget your camera as the scenery is spectacular and the chances for marine wildlife viewing are excellent. Fishing licenses are available at the NorthCountry Charters office on the Homer Spit.

Salmon

We have access to troll up all 5 species of the Pacific Salmon. The feeder kings are cruising around fattening themselves up to spawn another year and we catch them year round. This is a popular late winter/early spring fishery. The spawning kings will come through headed for our local rivers and streams from mid May through July. Sockeye’s and Pink’s will arrive throughout the middle of the summer and the Silver’s finish off our salmon season from late July well into September. These salmon are as fresh and wild as they get! Don’t wait until they are in the river’s to experience the fight of a salmon.

Combo Fishing just for the FUN of it!

Halibut/Salmon Combos

When we start fishing in early spring the first fish we target are the feeder king salmon and the halibut, so combining the trip for both species gives you a great combo experience and the chance to put some delicious fresh fish on your table after a long winter. As the season draws on, the halibut/salmon combo changes with the salmon season.

Halibut/Lingcod Combos

Full day of Halibut not enough? Looking for a little extra action on your Alaskan fishing adventure? Try your hand at catching Alaska’s most voracious predator fish: Lingcod, which opens July 1st. These fish can reach weights over 50 pounds. They typically live in the big rock piles near the Gulf of Alaska and use the element of surprise when attacking food, this means they strike hard and run fast.

Our captains use artificial jigs and lighter tackle to coax them out of their rocky hiding places. This is a fun experience as your captain will spend ample time targeting bothHalibut and Lingcod. Because Lingcod live exclusively in rocky areas we have to make a longer run towards the Chugach Islands, the steep rock bottom in this area provides a massive upwelling of currents from the deeper Gulf of Alaska creating a huge diversity of fish and other wildlife. Whales are a common site here.

Halibut/Lingcod Combo's $300/person + tax
Boat rate (less than 6) is $1650 + tax

“ULTIMATE’ Multi-Species Long Range Combo’s– do it all in one Day!

Imagine fishing for Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish and possibly Silver Salmon all in one day. After the 1st of July when the Lingcod season opens we offer the Multi-Species to try for the Grand Slam! This Multi-Species Combo’s is a longer range day trip taking you down through the beautiful Chugach Islands where the bottom is rockier and the fishing more diverse. Here you have the opportunity to fish away from the daily charter fleet, have access to possibly larger halibut, fight a lingcod on a jig, catch a variety of rock fish, enjoy the fight of the acrobatic silver salmon and watch whales (and sometimes sea lions too) up close. This is the ultimate in day fishing out of Homer.

Weather can at times be a factor due to the area and distance we want to fish, in the event that it does not cooperate, we would be able to still find you some great halibut fishing and adjust the rate back at the dock.

Full Multi-Species Combo’s are $325/pp + tax (min. 4 passengers)
Boat rate (less than 6) is $1750 + tax
